CECI: The New inter@ctifs Event and Convention Centre in Trois-Rivières

12 December 2018

It was with great pride that Société Immobilier G3R Inc., as well as the Delta Trois-Rivières by Marriott hotel the new Event and Convention Centre inter@actifs (CECi). Work started in July 2017, and the company Therrien Entrepreneur Général recently completed it.

A beacon in the heart of downtown (1634 rue Notre-Dame Centre), this $50 million project was 100% financed by Société Immobilier G3R, from the construction to management phases. The City of Trois-Rivières provided financial support for operations, representing investments with zero cost considering the income generated by this project.

An inspired, unique, modern and distinctive setting for citizens, convention participants, even organisers, tourists and many others, CECi offers a modern and inter@actif setting. It’s a dynamic structure, so both small and large events can be held there, as it can host more than 4,000 people in its 21 meeting rooms and four large ballrooms.

The 90,000 ft2 complex integrates different technologies such as information stations, Bluetooth connections, mobile payments and several interactive applications. In addition to modern lighting systems for each room creating the perfect atmosphere, CECi offers guests a leading edge technological experience. For example, during a conference, participants can interact live with a moderator, ask questions in real time and follow a presentation on their smart devices. These are only a few of the uses available among the new tools developed exclusively for CECi.

When the acquisition was announced in 2015, Mrs. Guylaine Déziel as well as Mr. Steve Vigneault, Mr. Alexandre Trudel and Mr. Carl Gravel mentioned their pride in investing in their community. They believe in the city and the potential and know-how of its residents.

“Our wish was to develop a complex where clients, residents  and visitors could get an unforgettable experience, a bustling urban, commercial and cultural beat that characterises Trois-Rivières. Today, we can say mission accomplished,” noted Carl Gravel, President of Société Immobilière G3R Inc.

“Today, organisers want more than just a room rental for their convention experience. The clients want to experience their convention rather than just attending it. This is why specialised coffees have replaced filtered coffees, and microbreweries have replaced mass-produced beers,” highlighted Joyce Godbout, General Manager of the Delta Trois-Rivières by Marriott.

“I would like to thank our local entrepreneurs for believing in our region and helping Trois-Rivières return as a leader in business conventions in Quebec. We are proud of having this new infrastructure here, a modern CECi reflecting the 21st century,” stated the mayor of Trois-Rivières, Mr. Yves Lévesque, via a video filmed for the event.

The new restaurant Le Brasier 1908, found in the same building as CECi, is inspired by the history of Trois-Rivières. Its name recalls the name of the fire that almost decimated the downtown core at the start of the 20th century. Le Brasier 1908 will be a welcoming place where specialised products will match with soul food, traditional cooking from the American south.

Many partners have set up inside CECi, including Millenia Spa Urbain, a health spa for visitors of any age, Starbucks, Dépanneur 2.0 and the Orléans Express bus depot.

A Cutting Edge Hotel

At the same time as the completion of the work for CECi, the Delta Trois-Rivières by Marriott went through significant upgrades. Now with 160 fully renovated rooms adapted to today’s needs and based on the high standards of the Marriott chain, the hotel offers 4-star lodging which will meet its clients needs.

Additional, by spring 2019, no less than 65 new rooms will be added. Spacious and elegant, they will be equipped with 55″ HD televisions, a mini-fridge, and will have free Wi-Fi access. Furthermore, the Trois-Rivières artist Patricia Kramer produced a series of paintings exclusive to the hotel, which will make each room unique. This is in addition, some of the rooms will have spectacular views of the Saint-Lawrence River. The hotel will be the first in the Mauricie region with a Solucycle system, which manages food waste, fully collects it and transforms it into biogas or compost. A sign of the CECi and the Delta Trois-Rivières by Marriott popularity-group reservations for 2019 have doubled compared to the last two years. These are expected to increase over the next three. Reservations are already being taken for events in 2022.

Trois-Rivières-Business Destination

Mandated by the City of Trois-Rivières to develop and promote tourism in the city, IDE Trois-Rivières has noted that CECi has already drawn significant interest from its business clients. The complex adds to the extensive offer the city has as an excellent convention destination in Quebec. The industry is important, and each year, more than 40% of overnight stays registered by Trois-Rivières hotels stem from different events and conventions. With its hotel offer of more than 1,000 rooms, with the downtown core a few steps away, its 400 years of history, its amazing attractions and gourmet restaurants, Trois-Rivières has a distinctive offer that is appreciated by its business clients.
