Destination Sherbrooke is proud to announce that Sherbrooke Draft 2014 is almost here!

Sherbrooke, February 22, 2014 – As announced in December 2012, the Sherbrooke Phoenix hockey club will host the 2014 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Draft. The organizing committee for the 2014 Sherbrooke Draft used the game between the Rimouski Oceanic and Sherbrooke Phoenix as the official launch of the event to be held from May 27-31, 2014 in Sherbrooke. The week of activities will culminate in the 2014 QMJHL Draft taking place on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Palais des Sports Leopold-Drolet beginning at 10:00 a.m. This flagship league event will be open to public free of charge. The following information contains all the pertinent details on the organizing committee, the event’s tagline, details of the GM For a Day Contest and how to stay informed as the event draws near.

Organizing Committee

The organizing committee for the Sherbrooke Draft 2014 has been hard at work in recent months to be ready to welcome this prestigious event. The chairman of this hosting committee is Sherbrooke business leader Jacques Fortier. He is supported in his functions by Sherbrooke Phoenix Director of Operations, Sylvie Fortier who has coordinated the committee’s activities.

For their part, shareholders of the Sherbrooke Phoenix, Mario Aube and Denis Bourque act as representatives of the team’s board on the organizing committee.

"We have a team with incredible attention to detail that has worked diligently in recent months," said Sherbrooke Draft 2014 committee president, Jacques Fortier. "We set the objective to create a unique event which the population of Sherbrooke, QMJHL management, the 17 organizations and families of those players that could be drafted will always remember.

"The 2014 Sherbrooke Draft will undoubtedly showcase the city of Sherbrooke and the Sherbrooke Phoenix organization to the Maritimes and the Northeastern United States," continued Mr. Fortier.


The Sherbrooke Draft 2014 organizing committee has also developed a bilingual tagline that is both distinctive and significant. It makes reference to the unity among the 18 teams that make up the QMJHL and with the population of the host city. It is also a nod to the teams’ future which is the basis of the draft itself. The committee has branded the event: ENSEMBLE POUR LA RELÈVE/TEAMING UP FOR THE NEXT GENERATION.

GM for a Day Contest

Thanks to the valued collaboration from each the QMJHL’s member club, the organizing committee will hold an exciting contest for boys and girls ages 10 to 14. Organizers invite children to register at a for the chance to become GM For a Day for one of the league’s 18 teams. The lucky 18 GMs For a Day will then get to accompany the members of their respective teams on the draft floor for the first round of picks on Saturday, May 31. They will also be responsible for handing the jersey and cap to their team’s first round pick. The winners chosen from all on-line registered participants will be drawn on Thursday, May 1, 2014.
