Holiday Inn Express & Suites Trois-Rivières: Construction has Started!

9 May 2017

With the mayor of Trois-Rivières, Mr. Yves Levesque, local MNAs Mr. Robert Aubin and Jean-Denis Girard, representatives from the city and our business partners, the start of construction work for the new Holiday Inn Express & Suites Trois-Rivières was officialised by Mr. Jonathan Robin, Vice President of Groupe Robin, and Mrs. Nellie Robin, president of Hotels M Inc.

Strategically located close to the Highway 55 exit, this future four-story 111 room hotel will open in the spring of 2018. Among its future amenities, clients will find an indoor pool, a gym, a breakfast room, a Wi-Fi room in the lobby and three beautiful meeting rooms. The hotel will also offer free hot breakfasts, highspeed wireless internet, local calls and national and regional newspapers.

Since 2010, Groupe Robin has stood out in the hotel sector with its new establishments that focus on sustainable development, including the opening of the first LEED-certified hotel in Canada in Saint-Hyacinthe followed by a second in 2015, located in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Trois-Rivièreswill be a green hotel, designed to protect the environment and conserve natural resources. Like the first two hotels, it will meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards, which is the standard for green buildings in North America.

PROMOTING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

This new investment, with an estimated cost of more than $10 million, will create almost one hundred jobs on-site during construction and then almost forty jobs once the hotel is in operation. It will welcome clients from all walks of life on a site that offers remarkable visibility and easy access. It will operate in a region with more than 267,000 consumers and will have a true power of attraction for drivers that pass each day on the different highways (A-55 and A-40) that pass through the region. It will also benefit from a large potential market of business tourists and leisure tourists that visit the region each year, and will also benefit from the future arrival of the Colisée in District 55. The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Trois-Rivières will generate major economic spinoffs for the area by brining in new money, creating jobs and lodging tourists from outside the region. The preparation of the land was completed last fall, and the construction started several weeks ago. The opening is expected during the spring of 2018.

WHAT DOES LEED MEAN?

“Leadership in Energy and Environment Design” is the certification that the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Trois-Rivières expects to obtain by taking many steps to protect the environment. Initiated by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), this certification represents an international standard for the design, construction and operation of high-performance sustainable buildings.

HOW DO YOU BECOME CERTIFIED LEED?

Each action taken to promote sustainable development is attributed points which are accumulated to reach the necessary level for the certification. The establishment must respect several criteria. The criteria are set by the CaGBC, which directly aim a respecting the 3Rs: reuse, reduce, recycle.

These initiatives are based on:

  • Sustainable site development
  • Water efficiency
  • Energy efficiency
  • Materials selection and resources
  • Indoor air quality
  • Concept innovation

A “GREEN” PROJECT TO OBTAIN LEED CERTIFICATION

The hotel will be built to maximise the saving of natural resources, mainly thanks to recycling and reuse technologies such as:

  • The installation of an intelligent IT system that will control energy needs
  • The use of LED lights that reduce energy use and are recyclable
  • Pre-heating fresh air with a solar wall
  • Reusing heat of evacuated air to pre-heat the building’s fresh air
  • The use of EnergyStar appliances
  • Recharging stations for electric cars provided to clients and employees
  • Low-flow faucets
  • Bike storage and showers provided to employees
  • Smoke-free hotel AND worksite
  • No carpets in rooms
  • Use of low-emission volatile organic compound materials
  • Mattresses made with natural fibres (bamboo and soy-based foam)

Those are just some of the practices, standards and technologies that will be used to ensure the environmental performance of this hotel and as such contribute to the protection of our beautiful planet.
