The Victorin Hôtel et Congrès: First convention centre to receive the “Terroir et Saveurs du Québec” certification

9 November 2016

The Le Victorin Hôtel et Congrès convention centre, part of the Hôtels Villegia group, is proud to announce that their Le Laurier dining room received the “Terroir et Saveurs du Québec” certification. This prestigious certification is awarded by the Association de l’Agrotourisme et du Tourisme Gourmand du Québec (AATGQ) and is a Quebec first for this kind of establishment!

Mr. Steve Leriche, General Director of the Victorin: “We have always been very keen on using regional products. In the Victoriaville region, we are really blessed, and our executive chef, Mathieu Bourdeau, is a strong defender of Quebec products. The Victorin joined the “Aliments du Québec au menu” program three years ago, and it promotes the use of products from Quebec. Last March, our establishment was approached to host the “1er Grand rendez-vous en agrotourisme et tourisme gourmand” conference, and for the AATGQ, the certification of the dining room was a must.”

Concerned about meeting the specific needs of this new event, the staff at the Victorin analysed the certification criteria and realised that they already met 90% of the requirements. They quickly went to work to fill the missing elements. “We were happy to note that most of the missing ingredients required only minor adjustments in our methods, or adding certain regional products that were missing from our restaurant offer, which is already quite complete. For example, beers from microbreweries”, stated Mr. Leriche.

The AATGQ has been awarding the “Terroir et Saveurs du Québec” certification for many years, and it is granted to lodging and restaurant establishments and points of sale for local products, as well as to agricultural producers, transformers and artisans. It is a distinction that recognises the superior quality of their offer and their commitment to promoting regional products and Quebec terroir. The certification is a distinction of quality granted only to operators fulfilling this promise and showing concern for good environmental practices.

If you can find many certified companies around Quebec, the Victorin Hôtel et Congrès is the first large convention centre to receive this honour! “We are really proud of this certification. It is a great recognition for us, and it also allowed us to welcome the “1er Grand rendez-vous en agrotourisme et tourisme gourmand” on November 17, 2016. However, this is not the end of our efforts in this field. Other projects will be announced in the future which will reinforce our identity and better highlight the exception gourmet diversity of our region!”, concluded Mr. Leriche.

The Victorin Hôtel et Congrès is in Victoriaville and is ranked four stars. It offers 152 rooms and suites and has 27,000 ft2 of meeting spaces divided into 15 rooms. The hotel is part of the Hôtels Villegia group, which also includes the Manoir des Sables and the Hôtel Cheribourg, both located in Magog-Orford.
