11 September 2018

The City of Thetford Mines was proud to officially inaugurate its convention centre located on the enchanting site of La Cache du Domaine.

Able to host 800 people, the Thetford Convention Centre can host business meetings, conventions, conferences, marriages and any other large or small events.

User can benefit from high technology equipment and custom packages.

In effect, the Thetford Convention Centre is:

  • 12 convention and meeting rooms;
  • Dividing panel systems in certain rooms to welcome smaller groups;
  • 6,200 ft2 main hall;
  • 2,845 ft2 of indoor cocktail space with a great view of the water;
  • Two magnificent patios overlooking the water, with a total of 2,545 ft2;
  • Free outdoor parking;
  • Unique and sumptuous décor;

“It is an important day for the whole region, which can now take advantage of high quality business tourism infrastructure. A lot of hard work was put into this project in order to respect the budget and the time-line, and we feel we have done a great job as we launch the official opening. We can finally use this new tool to develop our economy and highlight our strengths and potential,” noted the mayor of Thetford Mines, Mr. Marc-Alexandre Brousseau.

It was during a call for tender completed in July 2015 that the project proposed by the company Complexe hôtelier La cache du Domaine Inc. was chosen. Also, the City is the owner of the building, and an agreement was signed with the hotel manager for the administration of the convention centre, which represents an investment of $8.9 million, and the contribution of two levels of government totals 90%.

An Enviable Position

Located in the heart of a natural zone, the new infrastructure will offer an incomparable experience for visitors that can combine business, relaxation and the outdoors. The range of the offer and the modern infrastructure provides it with an important benefit, but also an enviable position in the competitive market of business and convention tourism. Note that the investments made on the site up to today total $21 million (hotel, Noah Spa and Convention Centre).

Important Spin-Offs

In 2016, the Quebec Association of Convention Professionals (QACP) evaluated that almost 3,000 conventions and events that took place in Quebec generated about $268 million in tourism spending.

“The Convention Centre will be a major addition to our economy. Important spin-offs are expected for many business sectors, which will benefit from participants going to the site. This important project once again proves the dynamism and energy of Thetford, which has received almost $400 million in investments over the past 5 years. Our region is definitely in good health, and we are looking forward to showing all our visitors that who we are and what opportunities we can offer them,” added the mayor.

“To conclude, I would like to thank all the people involved in the realisation of the project, our partners and the two levels of government for their important support,” concluded Mr. Brousseau.
